I am sitting here tonight and I am deeply disturbed. This week I feel like I have seen and heard things that have left me disappointed with the church and with those within it. Now this Blog is not directed at any one person , but if what I am going to talk about seems to convict you or make you feel like I am talking about you then so be it, maybe the Lord is trying to tell you something.
You see this week I looked at some headlines that were made regarding this country and it made me take a look at a) the state of our nation and b) the state of the church. When I took a look at these two subjects I came to the conclusion that current state of our Nation is a direct result of the state of the Church in America. Let me break the current state of the Church down in several ways, as I see it.
1) When you step into a church in America, whether it be a Baptist church, A Methodist church, an Assembly of God church , etc, you will come across some of the godliest people you will ever meet. They are there worshipping God, singing his praises and doing their best to uplift everyone they come in contact with. Now for the most part these are normally leaders in the church congregation, some of them may even be staff or Deacons. Shoot they may even be the Pastor and his family. As a newcomer to the church they do everything to make you feel welcome and invite you back again. After church you and your family go out for Lunch and you see some of these people at the restaurant, and you happen to overhear their conversations, which leave you flabbergasted. "Did you see what Mary was wearing, what on earth was she thinking, coming to church in an outfit like that. And can you believe that Joe had the audacity to come up and act like nothing was wrong after what he said to Bob at the last committee meeting". And the conversations go on and on and can get much worse than that.Oh now please, don't think I am judging because I am not perfect, I have even been that person talking about someone, when what I should have been doing is praying for them. You see the Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:44 " But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; ". I take that to mean that if we see something going on wrong with a Brother or Sister in Christ , we should pray for them to see the wrong, but we should not be the one persecuting them or "gossiping" about them behind their back. What does that say about us as Christians?
2)Then you have those people I call Fake Christians. These are the people who everything they do is for show. They are Church house Christians in my opinion. These are the people that they do all the right things. They give, they are faithful attendees, they may even teach Sunday school or be on the Deacon board, or the planing committees, or be involved in the church in the youth department or in some other way. They are well loved by all but they are the ones who post the pictures on facebook of them out at the night club with a drink in the hand, They are the one who are seen at the ballgame yelling profanities at the other team and telling the dirtiest of jokes. They are the ones you see at the grocery store and they either ignore you and walk around you or they talk to you but the words that come out of their mouth definitely does not say "I'm a christian" but instead says "meet me at the local juke joint for a beer later". These are the people that will invite someone to church only when they are put in a position of having to , but will invite you to the dance hall or out for a drink every time you talk to them. I am so sick of this type of Christian. One of the main reasons is because their children are going to turn out to be just like them. They are going to "Play Church" just like Mom and Dad have for so many years. Holiness doesn't have a place in their home. They believe that they can take the word of God and manipulate it into what they want it to be and still get to Heaven, simply because they are good people. Well Wake Up people the bible never says being good is what gets you to Heaven, Jesus said "I am the way , the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" John 14:6. And then in Matthew 7:21-23 he states " Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name? And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.' ".
3) Finally ,we, the Church, has decided in my opinion, that instead of Conforming to Christ , we will conform Christ to us. How can I say that. Well take a look at what happened in New York state this week.New York became the 6th and largest state in the Untied States to legalize Gay marriage. Now when I heard 6 states had made this legal, I was so upset that I honestly am became ashamed of what this country is becoming. We, a nation founded by men who had a firm foundation in Christ, are going to allow men to marry men and women to marry women openly. Man has forgotten that in Romans 1:24-28 we are taught that Homosexuality is a sin. you see Romans 1:24-28 states "Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. " I sincerely believe that if you look back into the recent history of the US , you will see that in 1962 and 1963, when the government decided to take prayer out of school, is when this Nation started down a slippery slide that has led us to where we are today. The Church has become so immune to sin, that we accept it and rationalize it, to the point that it does not affect us any longer. Holiness has gone out the window and been replaced by complacency. We are afraid of upsetting the "balance" of things, not realizing the Balance has been one sided for a very long time. We have taken Christ and molded him into what we believe it should be. We hear terms like political correctness, and tolerance, when what we should be hearing is "Jesus is calling calling oh sinner come home." We should be telling everyone we know that Jesus is the one and only way to live eternally in Heaven, and without him they are destined for a an eternal torment in hell.
I know this may not be my normal blog, but this has really had me upset this week. I am tired of the church sitting back and letting sin and sinners run amok in our churches, our homes and our nation. I am tired of fake Christians, I am tired of being afraid to upset people. What I am read for is a return to holiness in this great nation and in our churches. If you agree with me then please post a comment on the bottom of this blog. If you don't well then I am sorry but this is what I have felt in my soul for a very long time now and after events of this week that I have seen and heard I felt it was time to let it out. I leave you with the words of Paul in Romans 12:1-2 " Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. "
God bless you Brothers and Sisters. May he keep you safe and satisfied in his love till he calls us home or returns for his bride.
In Christ's Love,
Bro. Bill Roy
